We are currently working on a complex project at The Norwich School. We have conducted a tree survey to facilitate the development of a new refectory for the city centre school which will bring many benefits to the community. Sadly, some significant trees are located with the development footprint and will have to be removed.
To remain objective we have noted tree decay in some of the trees which required investigative tomography to determine the risk from trees to the school community. This was followed by air spading tree roots which allows us to remove soil to view suspected tree root decay without damaging the trees.
The local planning authority have implemented a new biomass calculation policy based on the removal of the trees to be offset by tree planting in the wider landscape.
Currently we are looking at complex tree planting schemes, woodland edge and wild flower meadow planting across large areas around Norwich to offset the biomass loss of the trees.
