Pollarding
Pollarding is a pruning system in which the upper branches are removed to promote a dense head of foliage and branches. This method is often used in urban areas to maintain trees at a predetermined height.
As with coppicing, pollarding is a traditional way of encouraging trees to produce regrowth on a regular basis to maintain a supply of wood for various purposes.
Do you need permission before you go ahead with pollarding your tree? We can help you with your application to your local authority if there is a TPO (tree protection order) or a conservation area order in place.
